Improve your garden with these handy tips, tricks and ideas
Using egg shells as fertilisers
Egg shells are a double hit for your garden project. They are actually rich in calcium which many plants can benefit from and their sharp edges can help to deter the likes of slugs and snails from chewing your plants!
Milk carton watering cans
Lost your watering jug, or it’s no longer fit to use? Simply recycle your milk carton pricking holes in the lid with a small needle. Easy!
Prevent your gardening tools from rusting
Fill a flower pot big enough for your small garden tools with builders sand, add a little mineral oil and voila, you have your very own small tool holder that will help prevent them from rusting.
Keep your herbs fresh for longer
Whenever buying or even growing herbs it’s hard to cook enough meals to use them in before they start to die. But there’s no reason why you can’t freeze them, blanch then and stick them in a freezer bag before popping them in the freezer. Alternatively you could even use the ice cube method by chopping up your herbs and dropping them in to the ice cube tray with some water for freezing.
